Back when Santa brought my friends Tonka Trucks and Transformer action figures, I begged for garnishing kits, cookie sheets and measuring spoons. Back when my brother pinned his opponents on the wrestling mats and my sisters broke high school track records. I was in the kitchen accomplishing extraordinary culinary feats with crispy burned edges and too much salt. All were inspired by the cooking shows of the time like The Galloping Gourmet, The Frugal Gourmet and The French Chef with Julia Child.
Who would have thought my childhood obsession would transform into career built around food and travel. In 2003, I received a B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Grand Valley State University. I launched Food Guy Magazine (formally Culinary Cory) in 2008, which then eventually became a Webby Award honoree in 2012. Yearning to go back to graduate school, I went on to earn an M.A. in Food Studies from Chatham University where I studied culinary tourism development.
Every day passion food and travel seamlessly flows into my offline world. I began facilitating food tours in Pittsburgh in 2011, and then decided to launch my own tour company called Food Guy Adventures in 2016. When I’m not leading tours around town, I also market and organize group experiences for the international adventure travel industry.
I hope you enjoy the recipes and stories I share on Food Guy Magazine. And if you’re ever in the Pittsburgh area, be sure to check out one of my many tours. Cheers!
